A Message from Heather: Reflections and Resolutions
The beginning of a new year is a time for reflections and resolutions.   In the past year we have completed our expansion, added the juice bar, and expanded our spa services with facials and waxing.  We have brought in new classes such as RussaYog  and Pole Dancing, and added personal audio control to our Spinning classes.  Our on-line class scheduling has made signing up for classes easy and convenient, and our new Pilates Reformer has added a new dimension to personal training.   Retail offerings have expanded to include whimsical, functional Allessi products.

While I am proud of everything we have accomplished, looking forward and consistently evolving  to the next level of the fitness industry is one of my resolutions.   It’s important to keep things fresh and current at Vie, and I am excited about our new semi-private classes.  We are adding Cross Training, Vie Bar and Spilates (see descriptions below) beginning January 5.  These semi-private classes, along with Pilates, Boxerfit, Russayog and others provide new ways to keep challenge and variety in your workout.

Our new price structure for a semi-private class package is simplified to allow anyone to attend any class at any time, and our new class schedule is cleaner and easier to read.  While personal training remains the heart and soul of Vie, and is so important for accountability and reaching your goals, a new class can add another dimension to your workout, challenging both your body and mind.  A resolution to try something new is a great way to start 2009!

Happy New Year!
Heather

Initial Private Reformer Pilates Session Only $40!
If you have been wondering about that contraption tucked into the small room next to the upstairs class studio, now is the time to discover it.  The Pilates Reformer helps to align the body during a private Pilates session, allowing for a total body workout focusing on the core muscles.  Darlene Sosenko is our Pilates expert and has extensive experience teaching private sessions on the Reformer.  With her gentle and encouraging manner, Darlene will guide you through a strong, focused Pilates workout.  You may discover muscles you never knew you had!

Through January we are offering a private Reformer Pilates hour for only $40, with no further obligation.  This is an $85 value, so it’s really a great time to discover the Reformer!

New Packages, New Pricing on Specialty Classes
Our semi-private classes have evolved over the past year from just a few choices to eight different creative, challenging work-outs.  Classes like Spilates (a combo of Spinning and Pilates) Cross-Training (strength & cardio circuits) and Vie Bar (strength & toning using the ballet bar) will work your body in new ways.  Our semi-private classes differ from our Spinning classes because they take place in the upstairs studio, with no more than seven students at a time.  The atmosphere is quieter and allows the instructor to give individualized attention to each participant.

Our simplified schedule distinguishes between Spinning and semi-private classes, and our new pricing reflects these two categories.  Spinning prices remain the same, and we have reduced our semi-private classes according to the package purchases.   A package of 24 is $16 per class, 16 classes are $17 each, 8 classes come to $18 each and drop-ins are $20.  One package may be used for any and all specialty classes at any time with no expiration date, making it easier to sample a variety of classes at your convenience.

With over 30 classes a week offered at Vie, there is no better time to spice up your work out with something new.  Adding classes to your workout incorporates strength, cardio, flexibility and meditation, depending on the class.  For full descriptions of each class click here.

Amy's Protein Bars
Eating healthy snacks between meals is key to meeting dietary goals.  Our own Amy Wilds, personal trainer at Vie, shares her recipe for her homemade protein bars.

2 cups raw oatmeal
2 T. wheat germ
2 T. ground flaxseed
3 scoops Jay Robb Egg White vanilla protein powder
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds
1/4 cup natural crunchy peanut butter
Optional:  drizzle of honey & 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

1.  Mix together oatmeal, wheat germ, flaxseed, protein powder, cranberries, sunclower seeds and peanut butter so that mix resembles course crumbs.

2.  Slowly add about 1/4 cup water and a drizzle of honey (optional)until mixture becomes solid.

3.  Oil an 8 x 8 inch square pan with non-stick spray.  Pack mixture in firmly.

4.  If using dark chocolate, melt slightly in microwave, then stir until completely melted.  Spread thin layer of chocolate over the mixture.

5.  Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cuting into bars.
