A Message from
Heather... Vie Salads are Coming!
I have always visualized Vie as being much more than a gym, but rather a place where exercise, pampering and healthy living come together to help form a balanced lifestyle. It's a natural progression in our quest for balanced, healthy living to offer delicious, nutritious food for our clients, and I'm really excited that we will soon be serving house-made Vie salads! Our nutritionist, Lara Kross, and Vie trainer Susan Todoroff (a former caterer and now Vie's chef) have come together to create beautiful, delicious salads with just the right amount of calories, protein, carbs and fat for a healthy lunch. No more thinking about it - just eat and enjoy! Our salads will be made daily with much thought given to portion size and ingredients. We'll start with two salads, one high protein and one vegetarian. These salads will change often, depending on the season and our creative whim. We'll shop the Farmer's Market to bring you local, organic produce when possible, and our dressings will be from scratch using real ingredients like fresh herbs and spices and extra virgin olive oil. Look for these salads beginning in mid-May. Grab one to go or feel free to enjoy it at Vie, either inside or at our outdoor tables. I can't tell you how excited I am to offer these salads to you, and as always we look forward to your input! Heather May Spa Discounts! (Perfect for Mother's Day!) Reusable Vie Water Bottles Available Soon
Vie has always offered complimentary bottles of water to our personal training clients. While many people enjoy the convenience, we are cognizant of the impact bottled water has on the environment. In our quest to be more environmentally sensitive we will soon offer aluminum Vie water bottles. Bottled water is still available, but we encourage our clients to use reusable bottles. Take advantage of our citrus infused water dispenser upstairs. If you forget your bottle, we're happy to provide you with reusable cups, and we expect our aluminum bottles should be available by June. Thanks for helping Vie be a little more green! Outdoor Seating Starts May 1 Grab a smoothie or salad after your workout, head outdoors to one of our cafe tables and enjoy spring! You can even get some work done on your laptop with wireless internet service. We love having our clients hang out with us after working out! Smoothie of the Month: Pom Chill
Cool down after a great workout with our refreshing Pom Chill smoothie. Bursting with antioxidents and vitamin C, this blend of pomegranate juice, blueberries, orange juice and strawberries has only 250 calories. Get one in May for 15% off the regular price. Recipe of the Month: Pasta Salad Primavera
This recipe is adapted from the Whole Foods Market magazine, and uses just one pot of boiling water. The addition of the veggies is timed so that they are done at the same time. Blanching the vegetables makes them tender-crisp and brings out their color. 3 carrots, diced 2 small yellow squash, diced 2 cups small broccoli florets 1 red bell pepper, diced 2 cups halved sugar snap peas 8 oz. whole wheat penne or rotini pasta 1/4 cup olive oil 3 Tbs. fresh lemon juice 2 shallots, finely chopped 1 clove garlic, minced 2 cups chopped tomatoes 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Prepare a large ice water bath in a large bowl. 2. Add carrots to water and simmer 2 minutes. Add squash to carrots and cook 2 more minutes. Add broccoli and bell pepper to pot for 2 more minutes. Add sugar snap pear to pot for the last 2 minutes. 3. Scoop all vegetables from simmering water with a hand-held strainer and transfer to ice water. Drain when cool and pat dry. 4. Bring pot of water back to a rolling boil and add pasta, cooking according to package directions. Drain and rinse under cold water. 5. Whisk together olive oil and lemon juice in a large serving bowl. Stir in shallots and garlic. Add pasta, blanched veggies, tomatoes and cheese, tossing to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
