Message From Heather
I love, love, love our new look at Vie! The Pilates area on the 2nd floor is stunning and the training floor is uncluttered and really open feeling!
A huge THANK YOU to our staff and contractors for working so quickly and diligently to create the new spaces. And THANK YOU also to our clients for being so positive and patient with the configuration and equipment changes.
I hope that all of you who haven't tried Pilates will sign up for an introductory session. This month we have a special offer of 15% off this first session. I'm looking forward to showing off our new Pilates equipment and studio.
Happy Spring and Stay Fit!!
Heather
Client Quote of the Month
"I've been taking Spin classes at Vie for several years now and admit I was concerned when I heard about the space reconfigurations. I walked in Saturday morning as a bit of a skeptic but left after class feeling more energized than ever before! The new layout in the spin area is fantastic and feels infused with positive vibes. Nice job Vie staff!!"

Worries --- And Ways to Combat Them
Yes
It could happen any time, tornado,
Earthquake, Armageddon. It could happen.
Or sunshine, love, salvation.
It could, you know. That’s why we wake
And look out – no guarantees
In this life.
But some bonuses, like morning,
Like right now, like noon,
Like evening.
William Stafford
I am (have always been) someone who worries. I have this poem up in my kitchen because it reminds me that I have a choice every day about what to focus on.
Worry involves anticipating that something unfortunate could happen, and the discomfort of worry spurs us to try to avoid it. In earlier times, worry boosted one's chances of survival. When we sense danger, a flight or fight response occurs, releasing hormones and neurotransmitters to heighten our senses and response time. The problem comes when we are in a state of worry for an extended period of time. This causes stress that can lead to illness or other problems. Robert Leahy, PhD notes that, “Worrying impairs concentration and memory. You can’t tend to the present and worry about the future at the same time.”
Why do we worry? Leahy explains, “When we don’t know how something will work out, we worry to get certainty.” However, studies have shown that 85% of what we worry about ends up having a positive or neutral outcome. As Corrie Ten Boom said, “Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles. It empties today of its strength.”
Take Action: Gayatri Devi, MD, suggests that taking action can help reduce worrying. “When you think about or do something tangible, you stop thinking about the theoretical.” Exercising or doing something physical helps you feel grounded and strong, and it also combats anxiety and stress through the release of endorphins.
Cut back on caffeine: It increases your heart rate and adds to feeling jittery and anxious.
Stay hydrated. Dehydration has been linked to depression. Most people do not realize that drinking water improves not only their physical health, but their mental health too.
Turn off the technology. For an hour or two a day, let people know that you are unavailable. Turn off phones, tv, ipads, etc. and read a book or go for a walk - be in the moment.
You may not be able to control how much you worry– but you can control how much attention and power you give those worries. Worries can be like bullies – the more they get to you, the more they persist. Choose to turn towards something positive and energizing instead.
